چکیده
Iodine deficiency is uncommon in North America (18). In fact, the issue may be that part of the population is consuming iodine in excess. High levels of iodine in the diet may inhibit the function of the thyroid gland and produce symptoms of iodine deficiency (9). Normal diets are unlikely to supply more than 1,000 μg of iodine per day, and most adults are tolerant to a high iodine intake (1,100 ug/day) from food. However, the upper tolerance limit for iodine consumption is lower for children aged 1 year (200 μg/day) to 8 years (300 μg/day) (18).

متن کاملFrom detrimental to beneficial constituents in foods: tracking the publication trends in JAFC.
A large part of the research focus on food constituents in the 20th century was toward health-detrimental contaminants-pathogens, toxins, chemical residues, and some food additives. This is reflected in the publications in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry and other journals. This era witnessed the formation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Environmental Protectio...

متن کاملA framework for developing research protocols for evaluation of microbial hazards and controls during production that pertain to the quality of agricultural water contacting fresh produce that may be consumed raw.
Agricultural water may contact fresh produce during irrigation and/or when crop protection sprays (e.g., cooling to prevent sunburn, frost protection, and agrochemical mixtures) are applied. This document provides a framework for designing research studies that would add to our understanding of preharvest microbial food safety hazards and control measures pertaining to agricultural water.
